About David
David Layman is an Atlanta-based acoustic musician, vocalist, guitarist and songwriter. With deep musical ties and over four decades performing across the Southeast — including 6 years as a Tenor with The Atlanta Opera — David is an accomplished vocalist and regular solo acoustic performer at venues and events across metro Atlanta, north Georgia, and the Georgia coast.David's extensive repertoire spans decades and genres — from classic rock, melodic pop, and Americana to contemporary acoustic hits. While bridging a wide range of music, his sweet spot is 60s, 70s, 80s hits and crowd favorites. Most recently, David attended Andrea Stolpe's Songwriting Retreat in Nashville, working alongside multi-platinum songwriters and fellow musicians to continue developing his craft as an original artist. His journey as a rock musician started back in the heyday of Big Hair and MTV, fronting 80s cover bands along the Georgia and Florida coast, and later in Athens, Georgia, with an original, but ill-timed Power Pop band ala The Beatles, Squeeze, and XTC (alas, in the early '90s just as grunge exploded!).As a Tenor with The Atlanta Opera in the early 2000s, David performed operas in four languages (Italian, French, German, & Russian) in productions staged at The Fox Theater, the Atlanta Civic Center, and the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. After his tenure with the opera, he began playing acoustic covers at local bars, restaurants, private parties, and community and corporate events. As an aspiring songwriter, David's original music focuses on combining strong vocals, warm harmonies, and a power pop/rock sensibility – crafted with a song-first approach aimed toward genuine emotional resonance and real human connection.
